Director of Education Services

For more than half a century, VALIC has served as a leading plan provider for K-12 schools and school districts, as well as for higher education and healthcare institutions. VALIC is ranked as the number one provider of defined contribution plan services in the United States to public education employees in the K-12 market and number three for employees of higher education and not-for-profit healthcare.

VALIC has more than $55 billion in assets and manages plans for more than 25,000 groups serving more than 2 million plan participants. VALIC represents The Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company and its subsidiaries, VALIC Financial Advisors, Inc. and VALIC Retirement Services Company. We are currently interviewing for a Director of Education Services.

Position Overview
The Director of Education Services is responsible for advisor sales training, field and executive communications, instructional design methodology and participant education programs throughout VALIC and Western National Life.

In the first 6 months to one year the expectation is that the person in this role will be able to accomplish launching an Advanced Sales Training program.

This position is responsible for:
1. Working with National Sales Manager to craft executive communications and presentations.
2. Overseeing the new hire training programs

Organization:
The Director of Education Services reports to the Vice President of Field Development. Peers in this group include the Associate Director of Financial Planning. Reporting to this position is the Director of Sales Training, Instructional Design Manager, and Senior Education Consultant. The span of control includes approximately 5 individuals.

Performance Objectives:
1. Partner with National Sales, Human Resources, field management, and other internal departments to design, develop, and implement a coordinated training effort for VALIC’s advisors and sales management.

2. Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of training content through the VALIC/WNL instructional design process. Provide expertise and consultation (i.e., design workshops) to other internal departments in establishing training process’, programs, etc.

3. Oversee advisor and field management training and be responsible for ensuring that all channels of training, including: Basic Sales Training, Advanced Sales Training, DM Roundtable and other ongoing training programs are coordinated and consistent in message and desired outcome.

4. Oversee the operations of VALIC’s participant education program including the creation of new seminar materials and the ongoing maintenance of the current library of workshops. Support Group Relations, advisors and field management with their workplace seminar needs.

5. Work with the National Sales Manager and VP of Field Development to write and develop messaging for field communications and presentations.

6. Work with executive management and internal departments to ensure consistency and timing of field messaging – Be the One, field presentations, ECHO messaging, etc.

7. Develop a team culture of proactive consultation with the VALIC sales force, seeking to initiate strategic training programs, rather than merely responding to requests for training materials or support. Position Requirements
The Director of Education Services will be a strong leader, able to strategically view the opportunities of sales training and participant education on a higher order – one with a direct and significant impact on the overall company strategy and profitability.

The preferred candidate will possess:
• An overarching business strategy and translating that strategy into an actionable training and education plan that delivers measurable results;
• Five or more years of success within the financial services industry, including at least three years of experience in sales and/or sales training;
• Five or more years of experience in instructional design methodology, adult learning theory and curriculum architecture.
• Excellent decision making and ability to negotiate, consult, collaborate with internal and external groups with the result being a proper prioritization of deliverables;
• Ability to utilize and expand team dynamics through effective coaching and mentoring.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including dynamic public speaking skills;
• Preferred licenses: Life, Series 6 and 63 or Series 7 and 66;
• Advanced industry designations a plus (CFP, ChFC, CLU, CSA, etc.)
• Bachelor’s degree.
